Perhaps one of the biggest reasons Evil Dead II is a fan favorite is how it maintains the horror elements of the original while also including moments of subtle slapstick and dark humor. This was due to one of the many rights issues that the franchise has run into over the years, but it doesn't take long for Ash to continue fending off the Kandarian Demon as the sole survivor of the vacationing cabin party. The follow-up to the classic horror film picks up right where the original left off, though there is a somewhat confusing introduction with a re-shot sequence showing that only Ash and Linda went to the cabin. While the importance of The Evil Dead cannot be understated, its sequel, Evil Dead II (1987), is very much the favorite among fans.

Kjartan’s investigation appears to be running smoothly when ghosts from his own past surface and unexpected and gruesome events upset the otherwise peaceful island life. The riddle itself is part of the story as two of its characters discuss it between themselves throughout, and only towards the end is it revealed who these two characters are. It turns out that the cryptographer had visited the island to try to solve a famous riddle, the Flatey Enigma, stored in the library along with the copy of Flateyjarbók. On Flatey Kjartan becomes acquainted with some of the island community’s quirky characters and, with the assistance of the police in Reykjavík, slowly the pieces of the puzzle start coming together.Įarly on, Kjartan establishes that the cryptographer’s death is linked to Flateyjarbók (the Flatey Book), the largest of the Icelandic ancient manuscripts, compiling sagas of the Norse kings, the sagas of the Greenlanders, among others, a copy of which is kept in the Flatey library. So begins the plot in The Flatey Enigma ( Flateyjargáta) by Viktor Arnar Ingólfsson. In 1960, the body of a Danish cryptographer is found on an uninhabited island in Breiðafjörður Bay in West Iceland and Kjartan, a lawyer working at the District Commissioner’s office in Patreksfjörður, is sent to Flatey island to solve the mystery of his death. Palming the money, he turned away from the counter. “Is she your wife?” Without waiting for an answer, he said, “She speaks Spanish. “She comes in all the time with that young lady,” the man continued. His arms dropped to his sides, and he suddenly seemed less tall behind the counter. “That cute bebe from across the street? That’s your daughter?” Crow’s feet deepened around his eyes, and smile lines etched around his mouth. “Daughter?” The man perked up, his brown eyes suddenly bright. “Sir,” he began, “I really just need the syrup.” He jerked a thumb at the door. With the weather so cold, those who didn’t work were tucked deep in their houses. At that time of morning, most people were already at work. “I don’t even think my mother speaks Spanish,” Max said, dropping his arm from the counter. The man, who Max was beginning to think was also the owner of the store, stroked his mustache with a thick finger. “I just don’t, okay?” He tapped the five dollar bill on the counter. “I just want the syrup, man,” he said.Ĭocking his head, the man snorted. “You don’t speak Spanish, though.” He crossed his arms and stared down his nose at Max. “Of course I speak English, pendejo ,” the man said. Max opened his eyes, his mouth dropping open in surprise. The scent of cooking food reached his nostrils, and his eyelids grew heavy. While the stock market has tumbled and then soared since the first edition of Little Book of Common Sense was published in April 2007, Bogle’s investment principles have endured and served investors well. Bogle describes the simplest and most effective investment strategy for building wealth over the long term: buy and hold, at very low cost, a mutual fund that tracks a broad stock market Index such as the S&P 500. Bogle reveals his key to getting more out of investing: low-cost index funds. The Little Book of Common Sense Investing is the classic guide to getting smart about the market. The best-selling investing "bible" offers new information, new insights, and new perspectives It’s a way of understanding the diversity of political forms around the world, and also where they came from. Singapore doesn’t have elections-or has kind of fake elections-but it has a pretty strong rule of law. What they don’t have is anything like a real rule of law that constrains their state. They’re not so free and fair but sometimes there’s a surprise. So Iran has kind of democratic elections-they just had one. Historically, they appeared at different times. In them, I laid out the tripartite framework-about needing to understand that you’ve got these three components: the state (and hopefully a modern state), the rule of law, and democratic accountability, and that they are all separate. I wrote two very long books, The Origins of Political Order and Political Order and Political Decay. Foreign Policy & International Relations. Little things have the innate potential to grow and mature. Yes, little things have an incredible impact. If we are paralyzed to inaction by the small things, they can cause serious damage in the long run. Most of us have felt overwhelmed by an avalanche of little things that have piled up until we feel as if we are being crushed. Little things can also have a cumulative effect. Words are such little things, but oh, how they can wound or heal! How many reputations have been ruined by a rumor? How many children have been forever scarred by the harsh words of a parent? How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!” (James 3:5). What a little thing to carry such great weight! “ So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. The Bible calls the tongue “deadly,” and many have felt this awful truth. God repeatedly uses insignificant people, places, and things to accomplish His great purposes. Yet, Scripture warns to beware of small things that can have dire consequences. A short text can bring heartache or a smile. In a positive way, a dandelion from a child can be a treasured gift. A leak under the sink can lead to a huge mess. Negatively, lost keys can put the whole household in an uproar. Yet very small things have the power to influence the direction of a day. “Don’t sweat the small stuff,” we’re told.
